What is a Welcome Ambassador International?

A Welcome Ambassador International (WAI) is a student volunteer that assists incoming international students in making a successful transition to Syracuse University. They assist with airport greeting, provide support with international student check-in, guide new students around campus, encourage participation in orientation events, and serve as a resource for all International Student Orientation and Syracuse University related questions. WAIs must work well in a team, possess strong communication skills, be responsible, punctual, and enthusiastic about SU. WAIs cannot be Orientation Leaders (OLs), Resident Advisors (RAs), Dean’s Team Members or Peer Advisors due to the conflicting time commitments. WAIs are also expected to come back to campus early to receive training.

WAI leaders have to meet a minimum set of requirements in order to be offered a position. Each applicant must:

  • Be a full-time Syracuse University undergraduate student or just finishing undergraduate study at SU
  • Maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher, which must be held through the Spring and Summer semesters
  • Be in good judicial standing
