Dear New Student,
Congratulations on your admission to Syracuse University!
If you are a student with a disability and wish to request support services or other disability-related accommodations, it is important that you contact the Office of Disability Services immediately. Students with disabilities may choose to self-disclose at any time. However, requests for services and other accommodations should be made as early as possible to allow the University sufficient time to make necessary arrangements.
The provision of services and accommodations by the University and its Office of Disability Services is based on documentation of the student's disability. Documentation must include an evaluation conducted by a qualified diagnostician. Guidelines for what is considered adequate documentation of disability are contained on the Office of Disability Services' web site (www.disabilityservices.syr.edu) under the section Documentation Guidelines. Services are not provided without acceptable documentation.
Please note: We frequently receive documentation that does not meet University requirements for learning disabilities and attention deficit disorders. Therefore, incoming students with learning disabilities and attention deficit disorders are strongly encouraged to carefully read the documentation guidelines.
Recommendations contained in the documentation will be reviewed to determine their appropriateness to this setting. Services and accommodations are based on the individual needs of the student and are developed through an interactive process involving the student, an Office of Disability Services counselor, and, if necessary, representatives from other University departments.
If you wish to receive services and accommodations in a timely manner, please call David Kenyon or John Rouse in the Office of Disability Services at 315-443-4498. We encourage you to set up an appointment with a counselor in the Office of Disability Services once you arrive on campus so that services can be explained and authorized.
We look forward to your enrollment at Syracuse University and extend our best wishes for a successful academic career and a fulfilling experience here.
Sincerely,
The staff of the Office of Disability Services
