Information Technology and Services (ITS) provides a wide range of computing services and facilities for students, including high-speed wired (ResNET) and wireless (AirOrange) Internet connections in the residence halls and across campus, e-mail, online academic and personal information resources through MySlice, and computer labs equipped with specialized academic software technologies. Access to these services is controlled through the NetID and password. Students who have not activated their NetID are encouraged to do so before they arrive on campus. The process is simple and can be done online at http://netid.syr.edu.

Students will receive information about connecting their computers to the SU network through ResNET or Air Orange when they pick up their room key in their residence hall. To connect, students will need their NetID and password and must have a current version of antivirus software installed and running on their personal computers.

Instructions and Utilities for connecting to the secure wireless network will be provided as you arrive on campus. Please bring an Ethernet cable if you plan on using the wired network ports. Also please bring your software installation disks just in case your computer needs to be serviced. Our network uses access control software that checks to insure that you have valid AntiVirus software running and up-to-date, that your firewall is turned on, and that Windows Auto-Updates are enabled. In addition to these requirements we also request that you disable any peer-to-peer file sharing services before arriving on campus. Personal wireless access points, wireless routers, and Airports are not permitted on campus.
