Placement Testing

All new SU students are expected to take any applicable placement examinations before advising sessions, which begin on Saturday, August 23. Students of the State University of New York College of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY ESF) should consult their registration materials for more information.

Most Syracuse University first-year students are required to complete the mathematics and, if applicable, Spanish or French placement examinations online during the summer, available at orientation.syr.edu. Only students who were unable to take the examinations online during the summer may take the examination after arriving on campus. Refer to the "Syracuse Welcome Schedule at a Glance" for information concerning the dates, times, and locations of specific placement examinations. Students dissatisfied with their online mathematics placement score may re-take the exam online after noon on Monday, August 18.

The mathematics placement exam is available online for students to complete BEFORE 6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 22, 2008. You can complete this exam online from any computer with internet access, but it must be completed by the deadline. The exam contains 50 questions and takes approximately one hour to complete. The account name is Math Exam and the password is orange.
