Residence halls close during winter breaks. During this time, you will not have access to any North Campus residence halls or South Campus Skyhalls. This is done for safety and security reasons and is part of your housing agreement. If you are far from home or have an academic commitment in the area during the semester break, plan for alternate accommodations early in the semester. If vacancies exist, the University may be able to offer accommodations at an additional cost on South Campus. Contact the Housing Office for more information on this option.
Residence halls will remain open during spring break to campus residents.
Dining centers will not be open and cash operations will be open on a limited basis during Thanksgiving break, semester break, and spring break.
You must vacate University housing within 24 hours after your last exams unless you are participating in Commencement.
If you leave the University due to withdrawal, leave of absence, a study abroad program, or graduation before campus housing opens for the fall semester, it is your responsibility to directly notify the Housing Office to cancel your housing and meal plan charges. This also includes canceling SUpercard FOOD and PLUS accounts. Contact the Housing Office at housing@syr.edu from your syr.edu e-mail address. Be sure to include your name and SU I.D. in the body of your e-mail.
Syracuse University requires you to reside in University housing during your first two years of enrollment at the University, regardless of class standing. You will be held financially responsible for the cost of University housing attributable to those mandatory periods even if you fail to occupy University housing as required by University policy. For more information on this policy, see the Terms and Conditions of Student Housing (http://housingmealplans.syr.edu/pdf/terms_and_cond.pdf).
Housing agreements are for the full academic year – August to May. Room fees are charged by the semester, but the term of occupancy and your financial obligation are for both fall and spring semesters.
At any point during the academic year, residents of rooms or apartments that are not occupied at capacity may be required to relocate to comparable space in another housing unit.
For the health and safety of our residents, smoking is not permitted in any University's housing facility.
New students not obligated to the University's two-year housing requirement have until June 1 to cancel their University housing request to reside off campus.
First-year students should not sign a lease for their second academic year, as they are required to live in University housing for their second year.
Plan to bring your own linens, pillows, and towels. Jersey-knit sheets are recommended as they fit regular and extra-long twin beds. Mattress pads are provided. Washers and dryers are available in all residence halls and may be operated by coin or a PLUS account. The SU Bookstore offers a dry cleaning service. Bed linens, towels, and blankets may be purchased at the bookstore as well. A full-time custodial staff cleans lounges, public bathrooms, and other public areas seven days a week. You are responsible for keeping your room clean. Vacuums may be borrowed at the residence hall main desk.
