What is Early Move In? How do I sign up?
Early Move-In is on Wednesday, August 26th.  Early Move-In is for those families who would like an extra day to get settled and acclimated to the University.  The process begins at the end of July, when you receive an email from Housing with your Housing Assignment.  You will be able to download your move-in pass at noon on July 29th.  If you would like to move in early, you will be able to designate Wednesday, August 26th - morning or afternoon.  Spaces are limited, so please download your pass as soon as possible.

How do I access my NetID, SU Email and MySlice account?
Information Technology and Services (ITS) provides a wide range of computing services for students.  Access to these services is controlled through the NetID and password. Students who have not activated their NetID are encouraged to do so before they arrive on campus. The process is simple and can be done online at http://netid.syr.edu.  You will need your SUID Number to activate your NetID.

Your SUID number is a nine digit number located on your Intent To Register Form. If you did not record this number, you can request it from the Office at Admissions via e-mail at orange@syr.edu.

Syracuse University’s online and network systems enable you to manage business matters like financial aid, course registration, and seeing your grades. As an SU student, you’ll also get an e-mail account ending in syr.edu. But before you do any of that, you’ll need to get familiar with our computing systems. Here’s how to get started.

NetID

Access to the University’s computing network and services is controlled by a unique personal identifier—the NetID. If you have not activated your NetID, do so now. It’s simple to activate your NetID and create a password from your home computer by visiting http://netid.syr.edu.  You will need your SUID to activate your NetID.  Your SUID number can be found on the letter you received from SU Financial Aid.  NOTE: Although your SUID card contains a ten-digit number, use only the first nine digits. If you did not record this number, you can request it from the Office at Admissions via e-mail at orange@syr.edu.

Important: Never share your password with anyone. Nobody at Syracuse University, including Information Technology and Services (ITS), will ever ask for your password. Do not respond to any requests to reveal your password or other private information, including online and e-mail requests. Treat your password like the PIN for your ATM card – a well-guarded secret.
Once your NetID is activated you’ll have access to a wide range of computing services and facilities.

MySlice

This is your virtual gateway to life at SU. You can use it to view the online course catalog, register for classes, view grades, and request transcripts. You can also access financial aid, tuition, housing and meal plan information and services through MySlice. Consider configuring MySlice to share pieces of your access with others, like your parents. You can share access on your bursar account, financial aid, class schedule, and more.

E-mail

Official e-mail accounts for students are established in a system called SUmail. The University manages SUmail, which utilizes Microsoft’s Live@edu e-mail service.

Syracuse University has established e-mail as a primary vehicle for official communication with students, faculty, and staff. An official e-mail address is established and assigned by Information Technology and Services (ITS) for each registered student, and current faculty and staff member. Check your account often; all University communications sent via e-mail will be sent to this address.  SUmail log in: http://SUmail.syr.edu. Note: SUmail utilizes Microsoft's Live@edu services. When asked for your "Windows Live ID" or user name, use your official SU email address (NetId@syr.edu)

How does the move-in process work?

When you arrive at your residence hall, you will be able to temporarily park your car while our move-in assistants-the "Goon Squad"-will help you unload your car and move your belongings into your room. Since the 1940s when the Traditions Commission established the Goon Squad, Goons have been helping incoming first-year students adjust to college life and spread school spirit throughout campus. In the early days, squad members would lead cheers at football games and host events such as the annual Goon Show. Goons also used to make sure first-year students wore their beanies, indicating first-year status. Today, Goon Squad members are best known as the friendly group of students who greet first-year students as they arrive on campus and help them move into their residence halls.

What are the local banks in Syracuse?

Four banks are located near the campus area: Alliance Bank, JPMorgan Chase, HSBC, and M&T Bank. Two additional banks, Key Bank and Bank of America, are located within a short driving distance from the University.

For your convenience, you may wish to establish a personal bank account with a local bank prior to your arrival on campus. Information concerning types of accounts available, minimum deposits, and required identification to open the accounts is available from each bank. Contact information for each bank is listed below. For additional information, call the Treasurer’s Office at 315-443-2474, or go to http://treasurer.syr.edu and choose “bank/ATM info” on the left navigation bar.

Please note: local banks will not cash your personal checks unless you have an account with them. Therefore, you will want to plan ahead and establish an account to have access to funds via an ATM machine, or bring traveller’s checks to campus to ensure ready access to money.

Syracuse University owns many ATMs on campus. The transaction service charge varies, with a maximum of $1.50. Contact your bank to determine if they charge any additional ATM service fees.
