In August, 3,000 new students will arrive on the Syracuse University campus for Syracuse University's new student orientation program, Syracuse Welcome 2008: A Slice of SU Life. Likewise, more than 400 new students will arrive for the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry orientation. To ensure a smooth arrival and move-in, all new residential students must download a move-in pass from the Syracuse University orientation web site, orientation.syr.edu. Thursday, August 21 is the official move-in day, but a limited number of passes are available for Wednesday, August 20. ESF students move in on Wednesday, August 20, between 9 a.m.–2 p.m. for an opening convocation at 3 p.m.
Beginning July 23 at noon, you should log on to the Syracuse University orientation web site to select a move-in day and print a move-in pass. Follow these steps:
1. Go to orientation.syr.edu
2. Click on New Student Orientation
3. Under the Important Links section, click on Move-in Pass Information
4. Enter your name and SU I.D. number and select your move-in day (Wednesday, August 20 or Thursday, August21) and time slot (9 a.m.–noon or noon–5 p.m.). You may arrive on campus at any point during your selected time slot.
Be sure to review your individual school or college schedule before selecting a move-in day and time. Orientation schedules are available online at orientation.syr.edu. Many schools and colleges have an opening reception or event scheduled before 5 p.m. on Thursday, August 21. Plan your move-in time to accommodate attending these events. All residential students are required to attend a residence hall floor meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 21. Students participating in special programs requiring them to arrive before Wednesday, August 20 (i.e.: pre-orientation programs, athletic teams, and the marching band) do not need to download a move-in pass.
The deadline to print a move-in pass is Monday, August 4 at 4:30 p.m. After that date, students will be assigned to Thursday, August 21. We can only accommodate a portion of residents to move-in early on Wednesday, August 20, so a prompt response is essential. On both Wednesday, August 20 and Thursday, August 21, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., University personnel and a group of returning student volunteers, affectionately known as the Goon Squad, will assist you as you move into your residence hall.
You will receive an e-mail from the Office of Housing, Meal Plan, and I.D. Card Services on or about July 20 containing a housing assignment, roommate(s) contact information, and information on housing and meal plans at Syracuse University. The e-mail will be sent directly to your SU e-mail account. A packet of information will follow in the mail with details about housing and move-in. More information about housing at SU can be found at http://housingmealplans.syr.edu.
If you are unable to access the Internet to download a move-in pass or if you have any questions about the move-in process, call the New-Student Hotline at 315-443-1012, e-mail newtosu@syr.edu, or send an AOL instant message to SUOOCP.
