Mathematics

The mathematics placement exam is available online for students starting on Monday, May 4, 2009. You can complete this exam online from any computer with internet access.  In order to be registered for the appropriate math course, you need to complete the Math Placement Exam prior to making your course selections for fall (see your individual school or college registration instructions). The mathematics placement exam must be completed BEFORE 6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 28, 2009.

After you have completed the exam it is important to go the Summary page (click on Get Summary) and then click on "I am Finished"If you skip this step your results will not be recorded until you do.

The exam contains 50 questions and takes approximately one hour to complete.  If you experience difficulties signing on to the Math Placement Exam, you may contact the College of Arts and Sciences at 1-800-295-0994.

Math department representatives will be available in the Carnegie Library Reading Room during academic advising and schedule adjustment meeting times on Saturday, August 29 and Sunday, August 30.

Spanish and French Examinations

The French and Spanish placement exams are available online for students starting on Monday, May 4, 2009.  You can complete the French or Spanish exams online from any computer with internet access.  In order to be registered for the appropriate Spanish or French course, you need to complete the appropriate Placement Exam prior to making your course selections for fall (see you individual school or college registration instructions).   If you experience difficulties signing on to the French or Spanish Placement Exam, you may contact the College of Arts and Sciences directly at 315-443-2205.

The French and Spanish placement exams must be completed BEFORE 6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 28, 2009. No paper exams in Spanish or French are administered, but any student who has questions about your language placement, may come to 217 HBC for help from 4:30–6 p.m. on Friday, August 28.

Other Foreign Languages

If you are a new student who has had any previous foreign language instruction and plan to continue studies in that language, you must take the appropriate foreign language placement exam.  They will be offered on Friday, August 28, from 4:30 - 6:15 p.m. in H.B. Crouse Hall (HBC).  Please see your Orientation Schedule and Guide for specific room numbers.  If you wish to take another language, contact the Department of Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics at 315-443-2175 to discuss placement options.

English Language Assessment Exam

The English Language Assessment Exam is for all incoming students whose native language is not English. The exam is scheduled for Monday, August 24; Wednesday, August 26; and Thursday, August 27, from 9 a.m. to noon in Gifford Auditorium, H.B. Crouse Hall.

Bring a #2 pencil and your SU I.D. or the SCIS Clearance Form. If you have questions, contact the Lillian and Emanuel Slutzker Center for International Services at 315-443-2457 or Margo Sampson, ESOL language coordinator, at 315-443-9484.
