Tasks for all new students:

  • R  - Activate your NetID. Visit for more information.
  • R  - Log into your Syracuse email account and check it often. Visit for more information.
  • R - Due Dec. 15: Complete your Health Care Requirements. Submit your health history and immunization records at Students must submit immunization records to register for classes and move into University Housing.
  • R - Due Jan. 8: Email your photo for your SU I.D. Card to and your I.D. card will be ready for you upon your arrival. Visit for more information.
  • R - Due Jan. 8: Complete your housing application if you plan to live on campus. It is recommended that you complete your application upon matriculation. Visit the MySlice My Housing portal for more information.
  • R -   Take all applicable online placement exams before registering for your classes on Jan. 11. Visit for more information.
  • Check your Financial Aid To-Do-List and complete any tasks to ensure financial aid appears on your bill. Access your financial aid account through
  • Register and request accommodations for a documented disability with the Office of Disability Services. Visit for more information.
  • R - Submit your final, official high school transcript with your date of graduation. Mail to:

  • R - Update your profile in Orange SUccess, the University's web-based advising tool. Visit for more information.

  • Rent a MicroFridge from the SU BookStore. Visit for more information.

  • Order your textbooks online at the Bookstore and receive a free gift!  Free, convenient on-campus pickup when you arrive.  Visit for more information.
  • R - Pay your tuition. Questions about paying your tuition? Contact the Bursar Office at bursar@syr.eduor by calling 315.443.2444.
  • Sign up for Orange Alert, the University's crisis notification system on MySlice.
  • Sign up for direct deposit on MySlice for a convenient way to receive refunds or on-campus paychecks.
  • R - Multiple Due Dates: Complete Community Wellness Requirements. Visit for more information. (Please note that failure to complete these requirements will affect your ability to register for classes.)

Student Veteran Additional Tasks:

  • R - Complete the Student Health Insurance Plan enroll/waive form on MySlice. You can submit a copy of your VA ID card or Active Duty ID card to waive the Student Health Insurance Plan. Visit the Health Insurance webpage for more information.

  • R - Complete the Request for Benefit Certification form form online through the Financial Aid To-Do-List list in your MySlice account. There is not a separate application for Yellow Ribbon benefits; you will be awarded Yellow Ribbon automatically if eligible. Please email for questions.

  • R - Submit a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility (COE) to the Veterans Resource Center. The VA form 22-1990 or 22-1990E can be completed online through the Veterans Online Application (VONAPP). Questions? Email or call 315.443.0141.

  • Schedule an appointment with your VA VetSuccess On Campus (VSOC) Counselor, Kate Untiedt, to review possible benefits while you are attending training and discuss your transition to campus. Contact Kate Untiedt by calling 315.443.0177 or by emailing

  • Submit your Joint Service Transcript (JST) or Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) transcripts to your home school or college to receive any applicable transfer credits for your military service.
